I came to Macalester because during the recruiting process, my football coaches, they really showed me that they actually cared about me as a person outside of the athletic department. So they more or less invested in me as a person and tried to figure out who I was as a person-- the things I wanted to do in life. I believe Macalester is for the student who believes highly in themselves. Maybe it's been under-recruited-- believes they play, and desires to play at a high level, and wants to compete against some of the top talents in the country. Coming to play athletics here at Macalester, there's definitely like a large jump from high school to college.
Although people may say this is just D-III, you will have to work hard in order to be a good athlete at this level, because everyone here truly does care about being a good athlete. Coaches are really there to support you and your other interests besides your sport. Obviously, in addition to pushing you and trying to make you the best athlete you can be. Our students are really purpose-driven. So in addition to pursuing excellence, both in and outside of the classroom, Macalester students are looking for this thing. And that other things about how can I influence change, maybe not just on my campus, but across the city, across the nation, and maybe even across the world.
At Macalester, you'll be challenged athletically and academically. And a lot of the skills that it takes to be an organized student-athlete at Macalester will be able to translate into the real world post-graduation-- and there'll be life skills that you can carry on with you throughout the rest of your life.
