Macalester's location within the Twin Cities offers a lot of opportunities for students. And that's essentially why I decided to come to Macalester.
A very special part of a lot of classes here is the ability to actually make connections with communities and people in the Twin Cities.
An experience I had at Macalester is being able to participate in field trips around the Twin Cities. To be more specific, while taking an art history class, I was able to visit the Art Institute and just be able to walk around and have a more specific perspective of the artworks and then come back to a class and be able to analyze it in a more realistic but also the manner.
In a class called, "Indigenous Healing and Well-being," our professor took us to the Native American Community Clinic and this was a really, really important field visit.
Macalester has a really unique opportunity through the Community Engagement center on campus, where there's a whole department that works towards just getting students off campus in specific nonprofits or organizations and programs. The department will provide transportation as well as removing barriers and really getting students more involved in the Twin Cities.
In general. I think it is really nice to be able to step out of class, go into the Twin Cities and participate in a more engaging way of learning.
