Being here in the Twin Cities, I have been able to use the cities to have a ton of new experiences-- ones that I in high school didn't see myself doing. Living in a place that's so diverse with its culture-- We're not smack in the middle of Minneapolis, or smack in the middle of Downtown St. Paul. But we're still pretty close by.
So you still feel the energy of the cities, even in this neighborhood. One thing I love about Macalester, and its location, is that you kind of get the best of both worlds. You get the on campus experience. You get the lawns. You get the dorms. You get your little section of the neighborhood, but then you also get the cities. And they're just a bus ride away, where you get to do these other fantastic opportunities, and feel like you're a part of those communities too. I don't always think of nature when I think of the Twin Cities, but there are a lot of really beautiful spots.
One thing for me that has been very helpful, especially as a pre med student, is access to so many hospitals, health centers, and all of them have been willing to have me, as an undergrad, be a part of their organization in some kind of capacity. So that has been really great about living in the Twin Cities. Being present on campus and just really realizing how much Macalester is located in an urban area. Even though we are a very small college and it does have that small college feel-- Experiencing and being able to visit different locations throughout the Twin Cities has been a really eye opening experience.
What I've enjoyed most about the Twin Cities are the internship and work opportunities I've been able to have. There's just so much here in lots of different areas that I'm interested in. And it's the type of thing where I have friends who are in totally different majors, totally different fields of study, completely different career goals, finding just as many really cool opportunities.
